SUMMER MUSIC: Send your instrumental student to summer music at West Seattle High School. Kids currently in grades 4 through 8 are invited to attend. Monday, June 28 – Friday July 16th (no class July 5th), 9 AM – 12 PM daily. We romp through more than three dozen pieces--upbeat and fun! Three concerts in three weeks! INSTRUMENTS for next year's sixth graders: If your student borrowed a school instrument this year, you will need to contact your middle school music teacher to see if there would be one available there. If you can afford to buy, now is a good time, as many music stores will be selling used instruments at reduced prices. I will gladly offer advice (and encouragement!).

THANK YOU for the many great years teaching your kids! Over the years, staff and parent support for instrumental music has grown enormously, as has the level of accomplishment by the kids. It's been a pleasure to get to know so many of you and an honor to be your kids' music teacher! A special thank you to the staff, especially that fabulous third-floor team!

The Westside Symphonette, under the leadership of our own instrumental music teacher Toni Reineke, put on a wonderful concert at Gatewood on March 16. A few of our advanced string players joined in and were a huge hit! The concert earned $521 for the instrumental music programs of Gatewood and Roxhill Elementary Schools. A huge thank you goes to the Symphonette and to all of the Gatewood families who brought bake sale items, helped set up, work and take down the concert. The money will go toward purchasing new instruments and supplies for our music program.

Instrumental music is offered to all 4th and 5th graders at Gatewood and more than half of our current students are learning an instrument. Most of our kids rent their instruments. If you have an instrument that's not in use and is taking up space in your closet or know of someone who does, please consider donating it to our music program. It would be well loved!
