June is the month. Pepsi is giving away millions in grants each month to fund great ideas. Our very own robotics guru, Erik Christensen, has applied for a Pepsi grant to support robotics programs in West Seattle schools. Go to http://www.refresheverything.com/ and search for robotics or Gatewood or Seattle. Then cast your vote. The ideas that receive the most votes by the end of the month will receive the grants.
You (and all your friends!) may vote every day.
So, VOTE TODAY and EVERY DAY of June for Gatewood Robotics!
Check out photos from our field trip to the University of Washington's Electrical Engineering lab!
Due to the complexity of the Robotics program, it will again be open to a limited number of 4th & 5th grade students based upon teacher recommendations and tests.
Students will use Legos NXT systems to build and program actual working robots. While working cooperatively, students will have the opportunity to use mechanical, visual/spatial, math and critical thinking skills.
The goal is that Gatewood’s Robotics Team will compete throughout the year with other elementary robotics teams in order to further their learning and encourage a life long appreciation for mathematics and its applications
For more information or contributions contact Erik Christensen: egchristense@seattleschools.org.
