Welcome to Team Mount Rainier!
4th Grade Math: Learning about place value in decimals (tenths and hundredths) using money as the focal point for understanding. Students continue to work on multiplication facts with focus currently on 8's and 9's.
5th Grade Math: Students are working on prime factorization, and writing their math thinking using math languages
Writing: Working on strategies for reading closely, finding themes and big ideas by thinking about setting and character; and supporting themes with evidence from text.
Reading: Finished our study of Fly Away Home with students sharing their understanding by writing in detail about either the character, setting, plot/action or theme of the story.
Science: Explored Black Boxes, creating both a conceptual and physical models to record our observations and ideas.
Social Studies: Created our Northwest Coast characters in art, and developed a personal history of each character to enhance our understanding of life in an extended family during the 1880's. Next week we will begin creating communicty buildings.
